1 Spanish Merino
Spain is the home of the merino sheep. Its fleece is sorted into four sorts as follow: - 1. Refina, the choicest (picklock). 2. Fina, from the belly, hindquarters and thighs. 3. Terceira, from the head, throat, lower parts of the neck and shoulders. 4. Inferior, tufts from the forehead and cheeks, and from the tail and legs (see Spanish Wool) -
2 Spanish Stripes
A plain weave cotton cloth with a black stripe about 1-in. wide at each selvedge, woven 50-in. to 56-in. wide, about 64 reed, 24 to 32 picks per inch, 36's hard spun twist, and 10's to 16's weft. The cloth is raised on one side and piece-dyed. It was originally made with wool yarns in the 56-in. width, and fulled finish with a short nap. Used for bed coverings and curtains and given as presents at weddings, birthdays, etc. A narrow style is popular made 30-in. 20 yards, 58 ends and 37 picks per inch, 32's warp, 21's weft, and sized to weigh 15-lb. per piece. -

A variety of low-grade Spanish wool. -
5 Campos Wool
A variety of Spanish wool which is suitable for yarns for dress fabrics. -
6 Migot Wool
The French term for a Spanish wool. -
7 Pyrenean Wool
Fine Spanish wool used for carpets. It does not wash well. -
8 Mestiza Wool
MESTIZO, or MESTIZA WOOLThe wool commonly known as River Plate or Agentine wool. It is obtained by crossing the Spanish merino with the native South American sheep, the criolla. It is a wool of good quality, but is very difficult to clean owing to being infected with " screw burrs " which resist any carbonizing process. A special machine is necessary, in addition to carbonizing, to make the wool fit for spinning. -
9 Pampa Wool
The wool of a South American sheep of this name giving a long, straight, and bright wool. The sheep was derived from the Spanish breed, the Chuna, and is superior to Creole wool. -
10 Cape Snow-White Wool
A variety of merino wool from South Africa. The Spanish merino rams were imported in 1680 and crossed with the native sheep In 1775 a further large number were imported from Spam.
